Legislation to remove police checks passed by parliament

Jun 2020 |

Starting from 8 July 2020 people will no longer have to have police and child protection order checks before starting fertility treatment in Victoria after state parliament passed legislation removing the requirement.

The legislation, known as the Assisted Reproductive Treatment Amendment Bill 2020, was passed by the Legislative Council on 4 June 2020 and will come into effect on 8 July 2020.

Following commencement, the effect of the amendments will be that police checks and child protection order checks will not be required before starting assisted reproductive treatment (ART). VARTA is working with registered ART providers to assist with the implementation of these changes.
