Child Safety and Protection Policy and Procedures
VARTA is committed to promoting and protecting the interests and safety of children. As an organisation, we do not tolerate any form of child abuse. VARTA recognises its commitment to children of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as children with disabilities.
All employees of VARTA are responsible for the care and protection of children and reporting information about child abuse in accordance with this policy and our Code of Conduct.

Ministerial Statement of Expectation
The Authority aims to work continuously towards regulatory best practice in administering aspects of the Act in a transparent way. In 2014, the Minister for Health issued a Ministerial Statement of Expection to the Authority in relation to its regulatory functions.

New law gives all donor-conceived Victorians the right to know their heritage
New donor conception laws were implemented in Victoria on 1 March 2017. This world-first legislation gives all people conceived in Victorian from egg and sperm donation the right to know their donor’s identity.

New regulations starting December 2019
New regulations made under the Assisted Reproductive Treatment Act 2008, the Assisted Reproductive Treatment Regulations 2019 (the new regulations), start on December 13, 2019, and replace the earlier regulations which will no longer operate.
The new regulations expand the costs that can be reimbursed to a surrogate and include:

Thousands of women using low cost treatment
There’s been a surge in the number of women using low cost fertility treatment, the Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment Authority’s 2019 annual report shows.
In 2018-19, 12,940 women received fertility treatment in Victoria. Of this number, 2,339 received treatment at low cost clinics – a 22 per cent increase from the previous year.
