MADMen is a group of men who were sperm donors for IVF programs in the 1970s and 1980s. The group formed in early 2013 as a result of increasing numbers of sperm donors contacting VARTA in response to media and parliamentary attention to the issue of connection (or lack of connection) between sperm donors from the early era of donor IVF and their offspring.
Members of the group have a range of experiences and views. Some of members have met offspring; some favour the legislative removal of anonymity for pre-1988 sperm donors, others do not. All share the experience of knowing they have biological children with whom they may – or may not – one day connect.
Donors are welcomed to join the group.
