The Minister for Health, the Hon Jill Hennessy MP, is inviting applications for appointment to the Patient Review Panel (PRP). Applications must be received by 11 May 2016.
The Patient Review Panel is one of number of organisations with responsibility for administering aspects of the Assisted Reproductive Treatment Act 2008. The PRP considers individual applications for treatment for surrogacy, posthumous use of gametes and embryos, and extensions of storage time for gametes and embryos. It also considers applications for treatment where a registered ART provider or doctor is concerned about the risk of abuse or neglect of any child that may be born as a result of treatment, or where a person does not meet the eligibility criteria. The Patient Review Panel also considers whether there is a reason to deny treatment to a person if a presumption against treatment applies. Decisions of the Patient Review Panel can be reviewed by the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).
