The two donor conception registers work in different ways. If you would like to connect with donor siblings or families who are created from the same donor, it is advisable to apply to the Voluntary Register. If you would like to connect with your donor, you are advised to apply to the Central Register.
If you are a donor who wants to make yourself available, but do not want to outreach to your offspring, you would be advised to apply to the Voluntary Register. However, if you would like to initiate outreach, then applying to the Central Register is preferable.
It is advised to apply to one register at a time. Applying for information can be an emotional process. VARTA recommends applying to the Central Register or the Voluntary Register rather than both at once.
It is recommended to apply for the information which is most important for you. Once that application has been resolved, then apply to the other register.
