What can I find out about the families resulting from my donations?
You are entitled to receive non-identifying information about the people who have been born as a result of your donation. You can contact the Victorian Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages to find out this informaiton.
Information about you, the recipients and the donor-conceived child will be provided by the treating clinic recorded on a Central Register maintained by the Victorian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
You can apply to the Central Register for information and/or contact with the parents of the child of your donation. They need to give consent to this. Once the child is 18 years of age you can apply for information and/or contact with them. Again, this only occurs if they agree to your request. As not all people conceived by a donor are told by their family about this, your application may be the way they learn of your involvement. Many donors prefer to use the Voluntary Register administered by the Victorian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages for this reason. You would be contacted if there is a match on the Voluntary Register with a parent or child or relative.
