Mr Michael Gorton

Chairperson

Mr Gorton is a partner with Russell Kennedy Solicitors, specialising in health law. He was formerly President of the Health Services Review Council, and Chairperson of the Victorian Biotechnology Ethics Advisory Committee.  He is currently a board member of the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission,  Melbourne Health, and   Management Committee of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.  He was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2004.  

 

 

Mr Matthew Carroll

Deputy Chairperson

Mr Carroll is a lawyer with extensive experience in the areas of anti-discrimination and human rights law.  He manages the Human Rights Unit of the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission which has responsibility for a range of the Commission's functions under Victoria's Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities.  Matthew is also a legal member of the Victorian Mental Health Review Board, as well as the Appeals Committees of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.  

 

 

Ms Margaret Coady

Ms Coady is member of the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics and of the Centre for Equity and Innovation in Early Childhood, both at the University of Melbourne. She is a member of the Clinical Ethics Advisory Group of the Royal Women's Hospital, and of the Victoria Police Human Research Ethics Committee.

 

 

Dr David Edgar

Dr Edgar is Scientific Director of Melbourne IVF and Reproductive Services at the Royal Women’s Hospital, and is also a Senior Fellow in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Melbourne. He has lectured and published widely in the areas of reproductive biology and human embryology.

 

 

Hon. Caroline Hogg

Ms Hogg was a member of the Victorian parliament from 1982 to 1999 and was a Minister between 1985 and 1992. She held Portfolios in Health, Ethnic, Municipal and Community Affairs, Education and Community Services. She is a director of beyond blue, The National Depression Initiative and a member of the Victoria Grants Commission.

 

 

Ms Ann Styles

Ms Styles is a corporate communications executive at Transurban. She has a background in journalism and has worked as a reporter, chief-of-staff and editor in South Australia and Victoria. Ms Styles is a consumer representative on the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Australia Overseas Trained Specialists/Area of Need Assessment Committee.

 

 

Ms Vicki Tutungi

Ms Tutungi is the Chief Executive Officer of Optiscan.  Optiscan is a publicly listed (OIL) medical device company that manufactures fibre optics based microscopic imaging technologies for the medical industry. Before joining Optiscan Vicki had a career with CSIRO where she was the Director of the Niche Manufacturing Flagship and prior to that, the Chief of CSIRO’s division of Manufacturing and Materials Technology.
